Globacom

Globacom is one of Africa’s biggest fully integrated CT solution providers with operational headquarters in Nigeria. It has operations in other key markets on the continent and currently boasts of over 40 million subscribers across these operations.
The company commenced commercial operations in 2003, and has a respectable global footprint as its services extend far beyond Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic to all over the world.
Since inception, Globacom has been the leader in innovation, introducing most of the novel products and services that have shaped the growth of the telecommunications industry in Nigeria in the last 13 years.
One of the dynamic changes Globacom brought to the industry is the introduction of the per second billing system in Nigeria which made it much easier for Nigerians to get value for money by paying only for the exact time spent on calls.   It also crashed the cost of making GSM calls by reducing the cost of acquiring a phone line and the tariff paid by subscribers from N20,000 and N50 per minute respectively to as low as N200 and 5 kobo per second.  The company’s leadership in innovation and value pricing has boosted Nigeria’s telephone penetration and empowered Nigerians to enjoy affordable voice and data services.
Through the introduction of innovative products and services, Globacom has consistently supported efforts to empower the people of Nigeria and accelerated national development. Among the revolutionary products pioneered by Globacom in the country are Blackberry, vehicle tracking, mobile internet, mobile banking, multimedia messaging service (MMS), in-flight roaming services, voice SMS, Magic Plus and Text2email.
The company recently boosted Federal Government’s cashless policy and financial inclusion drive with the launch of Glo Xchange Mobile Money Agent Network that is aimed at accelerating mobile money revolution and financial inclusion in the country.

Globacom is also the first network to test the 4G-LTE network in Nigeria, thus putting Nigeria in the League of Nations where Long Term Evolution (LTE) has continued to gain ground. It has now commenced the commercial roll-out of the widest 4G LTE network in Nigeria. Globacom has also contributed to boosting international connectivity in Nigeria by building an international submarine cable, Glo 1. In addition to boosting the provision of services to telecom end users, the facility is currently providing the much-needed connectivity to critical sectors of the economy such as oil and gas, manufacturing, banking, commerce, construction, education and health, among others.

The facility, complemented by the network’s thousands of kilometres of fibre optic cable across the country, has helped position Globacom as the internet service provider of choice. According to industry statistics, Globacom has consistently led the chart as the most preferred network for data services, with over 53% of new internet subscribers in the industry in the last 12 months choosing Glo. The company’s outstanding performance in the data market earned it the appellation “grandmasters of data.”

In voice services, Globacom has also continued to be the preferred choice of subscribers. The company recorded 68% of all additional GSM lines in the country in the last 12 months, according to a report by the Nigeria Communications Commission. Glo Gateway, Globacom’s international Wholesale Voice and Data Exchange and Trading Business Unit, is a leading provider of telephone hubbing services for the rest of the world. It has voice interconnectivity arrangement with over 70 Tier 1 and Tier 2 Carriers and Roaming partnerships with over 370 mobile operators worldwide.  Globacom is the first operator in Africa to launch gateway switches outside the continent to carry international voice and data traffic.

Globacom has also been offering commercial services on its fixed line (Broad Access) for the past couple of years with many companies and residential estates benefiting from the service. The fixed network offers convergent phone and broadband internet services. It gives users of Broad Access telephones and broadband internet services, unmatched voice clarity and instant, unlimited access to the internet at unimaginable speed. Driven by a passion to serve humanity, the Globacom team has been unrelenting in its efforts to consistently give Africa and Africans the best telecommunication network experience.
