Renata De Leers is an Actuary and graduate of mathematics and actuarial science from the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. She is an associate member of the Institute of Actuaries in Belgium (IA|BE). She is a member of "Advice & Assistance" Committee and its subcommittee "Africa," the committee "Accreditation", the Working Group on Micro-insurance of the International Actuarial Association (IAA). Since June 2014, she has been the Executive Director of "Actuaries Without Borders", a section of the IAA.


She has more than 30 years of experience in pension and life insurance, employed by supranational and private sector companies, primarily in emerging and developing countries in North and Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East.

She was the Principal Pensions Officer to the Staff Retirement Plan of the African Development Bank and head of the Geneva office of the Pension Fund of the United Nations in charge of Africa, the Middle East and Europe. She was also Head of Actuarial Unit with the National Insurance Commission in Ghana and contributed to actuarial capacity building in the Ghanaian industry...

She diversified from conventional actuarial activities to domains such as risk management, social insurance and micro-insurance.  She assists the actuarial program at the Institute Adonai in Cotonou (Benin) and in Lomé (Togo). She teaches micro-insurance at the International Institute of Insurance in Yaoundé (Cameroun) and the Institute Adonaï.  She mentors actively many young professionals writing actuarial examination from accredited actuarial associations in examinations centers in the region.

Her company, ACB Consulting, created in June 2011, has a network of multidisciplinary experts and graduates in Actuarial Science from the region. ACB is based in Lomé (Togo), being a hub for English and French speaking Sub-Saharan Africa.  It is now also setting up an office in Tunisia for the Maghreb countries. ACB assists in multidisciplinary projects such as creation of (micro) insurers, financial and actuarial audits of social security institutions and insurance companies, asset liability management, risk management policies and interim management. The transfer of experience is the philosophy of ACB Consulting.
